MoMA Exclusive: Designer Reiko Sudo works exclusively with weavers and dyers in Kiryu. Japan. blending traditional practices with modern technologies to create distinctive textiles for Nuno (which means fabric in Japanese). The double-weave Stripey Stripe Wool-Cotton Scarf features both horizontal and vertical stripes for an eye-catching effect. Fluffy wool loop yarn has been woven in to give the piece a distinct crinkled texture. Sudo’s work is represented in MoMA’s collection and her designs were featured in the Museum’s 1998 exhibition Structure and Surface: Contemporary Japanese Textiles.
