This design was made using a traditional sand-casting technique. With this method. a pattern or exact replica of the object that will be cast is used to create a mold. The mold is made by packing sand. which contains a molasses chemical binder. around the pattern. After the mold is created. molten metal is poured into it and allowed to cool. The mold is then removed with a hammer and the pieces are hand-finished to be smooth and shiny.
